“Our family is devastated by the sudden loss of my cousin, Ezra…”
Vernon February 17 2026 - A GoFundMe page identifying the 22-year-old victim of last week’s fatal hit and run on Highway 6 in Vernon is up and collecting donations to help the family "facing unexpected funeral expenses while his mom takes time off work to grieve and support her daughters through this unimaginable loss".
The GoFundMe organizer, Teanna Dranchuk says before his passing, Ezra Cool “reached out for help” and “checked himself into the hospital for a wellness check.” She adds that he “was meant to receive 24/7 supervised care” but says “somewhere along the way, that care did not happen.”
The online fundraiser describes the 22 year old as a devoted son, protective big brother and loyal friend.
According to the page, Ezra was an honour roll student who served in the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets and loved the outdoors, including camping and skydiving.
A photo shared on the fundraising page appears to show Ezra in his cadet uniform.

Near the scene of the collision, a bouquet of flowers has been taped to a lamp post, marking what is believed to be a memorial at the location where the young man lost his life.
Police have not publicly released the victim’s name.
The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP have not issued a new update since their earlier appeal for dash camera footage and witnesses from the area at the time of the crash, as investigators continue efforts to identify and speak with the driver involved.
The GoFundMe campaign reports the family is facing unexpected funeral expenses while Ezra’s mother takes time away from work to grieve and support her daughters.
The fundraiser remains active for those wishing to support the family.
