Old Man Winter and Mother Nature Aren’t Done with Winter Yet
April 14 2026 - Drivers on the Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt woke up to a surprise taste of winter Tuesday morning as a yellow snowfall warning took effect.

Periods of snow and local blowing snow are expected throughout the day, with the snow level sitting around 1,000 metres.
Forecasters are calling for about 10 cm of accumulation by this evening. Winds are also picking up this morning, which could create patchy blowing snow and reduced visibility in spots.
The snow is forecast to taper off near midnight, giving way to mainly cloudy skies with a 60 percent chance of flurries overnight. Another 10 cm is possible before the system winds down.
The snow level is expected to drop near valley bottom by late evening.
On Wednesday, conditions will improve slightly with a mix of sun and cloud, though there’s still a 60 percent chance of flurries in the morning and early afternoon. Winds will be lighter, gusting up to 15 km/h.
The late-season snow serves as a reminder that winter isn’t quite ready to release its grip on the high country of British Columbia’s Coquihalla corridor.
