RDNO Sees Steady Stream of Unplanned Water Advisories
October 23 2026 - From 2022 through late 2026, the Regional District of North Okanagan has issued roughly 15–45 unplanned Boil Water Notices and Water Quality Advisories per year, according to a review of its public Water Notices archive.

Most of these advisories were triggered by water main breaks that caused temporary loss of pressure in localized areas of Greater Vernon Water and smaller utilities.
While many were short-lived and later rescinded after testing, the volume has remained relatively consistent across the five-year period.
2026 is tracking in the same range as 2024 and 2025 so far.
This rate appears typical for a mid-sized Canadian system of its size (serving about 56,000 people) with aging pipes.
Larger cities routinely see hundreds of main breaks annually, and similar Okanagan communities also issue frequent localized advisories after pressure-loss events.
National data show that aging infrastructure is a widespread challenge, and RDNO’s figures fit the broader pattern rather than standing out as unusual.
The figures are approximate, as RDNO does not publish an official annual total, and not every main break results in a formal advisory.
