UPDATE - The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP are asking for witnesses and dash cam footage as they continue investigating a fatal collision that claimed the life of a 22-year-old man Thursday morning.

Police say the incident occurred February 12 at approximately 7:25 a.m. on Highway 6 near the intersection of 27th Street. Officers responded to a report of a deceased person lying in the eastbound lanes of the highway.

Investigators have determined the pedestrian was in the travel portion of the roadway when he was struck by what is described as the cab section of a commercial tractor unit travelling eastbound. The collision resulted in fatal injuries, and the semi did not remain at the scene.

RCMP are urging the driver to come forward.

Police are also asking anyone who was travelling on Highway 6 between the Science Centre entrance and the 27th Street intersection between 7:00 a.m. and 7:25 a.m., and who may have dash cam footage or witnessed the collision, to contact the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP at 250-545-7171.

The investigation remains ongoing, with assistance from BC Highway Patrol, the RCMP’s Integrated Collision Analyst Reconstructionist Section, and the BC Coroners Service.
