Pedestrian Killed in Highway 6 Collision - Driver Sought

February 12 2026 - A 22-year-old man is dead following a collision on Highway 6 early Thursday morning, and RCMP are asking the driver of a commercial semi-truck to come forward.


Vernon North Okanagan RCMP say officers responded at 7:25 a.m. Feb. 12 to a report of a deceased person in the eastbound lanes of Highway 6 near 27th Street.

Investigators determined the pedestrian was in the travel portion of the highway when he was struck by the cab section of a commercial tractor unit travelling east. The driver did not remain at the scene.


Highway 6 was closed for a time as police investigated.


BC Highway Patrol, the RCMP’s Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstructionist Section, and the BC Coroners Service are assisting.


The victim’s family has been notified.


Anyone with information or dash cam footage from Highway 6 between the Science Centre entrance and 27th Street between 7 a.m. and 7:25 a.m. is asked to call Vernon North Okanagan RCMP at 250-545-7171.
