The driver has been charged with multiple offences

According to Salmon Arm RCMP, on March 29, 2026, officers responded to reports of a silver pickup truck swerving erratically with a couch hanging out of the bed.

The vehicle had reportedly been speeding and passing on double solid lines earlier that evening.

Police report officers attempted a traffic stop on the Trans-Canada Highway, but the truck is said to have fled.

During the incident, the couch and the truck’s canopy were allegedly lost. Police disengaged for public safety reasons.

Minutes later, the same silver truck was reportedly seen southbound on Highway 97B.

When RCMP located and followed the vehicle, it allegedly slammed on the brakes, causing a collision with a police car.

The truck then reportedly dragged the damaged police vehicle before striking a second RCMP vehicle as well.

The suspect truck continued southbound before stopping on Highway 97A near Riverside Road.

The male driver was arrested at the scene. He is prohibited from driving. Empty beer cans were allegedly observed inside the truck, and he provided a breath sample that registered a “FAIL,” according to police.

The driver has been charged with the following offences:

  • Assault a peace officer with a weapon

  • Dangerous operation of a conveyance

  • Flight from a peace officer

  • Mischief over $5,000

  • Obstruct a peace officer

  • Operate a conveyance while impaired

He was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court April 14, 2026.
