Small hedge fire quickly extinguished at Vernon Jubilee Hospital

September 20 2026 - Vernon Fire Rescue Service responded early Sunday morning to reports of a fire near Vernon Jubilee Hospital at 2101 32nd Street.

The fire burned in the hedges along the sidewalk on 21st Avenue

Multiple callers described a significant grass fire close to the Vernon hospital sign.

Crews arriving on scene found a hedge burning in the hospital’s west parking area on the south side of the lot.

The flames were confined to a section of hedge running along the parking lot’s south chain-link fence, which separates the lot from the sidewalk on 21st Avenue.

Firefighters quickly doused the blaze.

Later that morning the damage was clearly visible: roughly three metres of hedge along the fence had been burned.

A car parked in the west parking area was covered with ash and debris

Some people returning to their vehicles found them covered in ash.

RCMP also attended. No cause has been determined.
