The BC Wildfire Service received the alert just after 3 p.m. on July 12, 2026, for a blaze burning just north of Dee Lake in the Park Lakes area.

By air, the wildfire was roughly 25 km from Kelowna, 15 km from Lake Country, and 20 km from Vernon.
Initial attack crews and aircraft responded immediately. Two helicopters worked the scene alongside ground crews. Airtankers were also deployed to the blaze.

Locals first spotted a thick black column of smoke that soon turned grey and began to fade from sight as suppression efforts took hold.
Fire K40817 was listed as Being Held and then Under Control by evening. The blaze burned just 1.7 hectares.
No evacuations or area restrictions were issued, and the cause remains under investigation. The rapid, coordinated response kept the fire from growing and threating the busy Okanagan region.
