According to the RCMP, the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team (URT), supported by the RCMP National Underwater Recovery Training Centre (NURTC), continues coordinated recovery operations.
The incident occurred on July 10, 2026, shortly after 8 p.m., when friends on a boat reported one member of their group unaccounted for.
Sicamous RCMP and Shuswap Volunteer Search and Rescue (SVSAR) immediately responded, conducting searches on the water and along the shoreline. Operations continued throughout Saturday.

The URT attended the scene to assess conditions and plan next steps. On Sunday, July 12, the team carried out sonar searches, but the large size of the area prevented them from locating the man.
Sgt. Murrey McNeil, Sicamous RCMP Detachment Commander, issued the following statement:
“We would like to thank Search and Rescue volunteers and all partner agencies involved for their continued dedication and support throughout this operation. Our thoughts are with the missing man’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
Search efforts are scheduled to resume Tuesday using alternative towed sonar technology to cover the area more effectively.
