Winter in the North Okanagan reliably brings snow, sometimes inconvenient, sometimes scenic, always inevitable. In anticipation, the City of Vernon says its crews are ready to keep streets and sidewalks safe, working around the clock whenever flakes start to fall.
City crews have completed seasonal equipment checks, restocked sand and salt supplies, and coordinated with private contractors to ensure roads across Vernon, including Okanagan Landing, Predator Ridge, and Blue Jay Subdivision, are cleared efficiently.
Highways 97 and 6 remain under provincial responsibility.
F prioritized approach means major routes, school zones, and bus corridors are cleared first, followed by residential streets and then lanes and cul-de-sacs. Residents can help by moving vehicles off the street during storms, clearing sidewalks promptly, and watching for temporary parking bans during Snow Event Advisories.
Property owners have a legal obligation to clear their sidewalks of snow and ice within 24 hours.
