Sicamous Bridge Closed - Police Incident

Update, Sicamous Bruhn Bridge incident - Highway 1 at the R.W. Bruhn Bridge in Sicamous was closed Friday morning after a police incident and later reopened.
Around 8 a.m., RCMP responded to a 911 call reporting a road-rage incident in which a male was striking a female’s vehicle.
Officers located a red Honda travelling eastbound on Highway 1 east of Salmon Arm.
Police attempted a traffic stop. The driver fled.

Because of the alleged offences, officers continued the pursuit and set up a roadblock on the R.W. Bruhn Bridge.
The suspect tried a U-turn to avoid the roadblock; police used a vehicle to disable the Honda.
An out-of-province driver was arrested and is being held on numerous charges. Police said the victim, the suspect and officers were uninjured.

Update: Unconfirmed reports say the incident involves a collision between a police cruiser and another vehicle on the older R.W. Bruhn Bridge deck. It’s unknown at this time whether the collision was an accident or an intentional act to stop a vehicle. Investigators are on the bridge gathering evidence.
Highway 1 at the R.W. Bruhn Bridge in Sicamous is closed in both directions until further notice due to a police incident.
August 28 2026 - A police incident has forced the closure of the R.W. Bruhn Bridge currently under construction in Sicamous BC.
No further public details on the nature of the police incident have been released yet. The closure is unplanned (separate from the ongoing R.W. Bruhn Bridge replacement project, which has scheduled overnight work but no daytime full closures this summer).
