Salmon Arm RCMP warn of possible scam fundraisers accepting only e-transfers

September 11 2026 - Local RCMP are cautioning residents about a possible scam operating under the guise of a fundraiser.

Police say they are aware of activity in the community but do not know whether the campaign, or any organization it claims to support, is legitimate.

They are urging people to be careful when buying tickets or making donations, especially if the only payment method accepted is an e-transfer.

“E-transfer should only be used with people you know and trust,” the detachment said in a release Thursday.

“Do not use e-transfer to purchase things or tickets from anyone you don’t know.”

Other warning signs include requests for personal information and pressure to donate or buy immediately.

Residents considering a donation or ticket purchase are advised to:

• Check that the charity or society is registered using the Canada Revenue Agency and OrgBook BC databases

• Avoid rushed decisions

• Report anything suspicious to police and the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre

Salmon Arm RCMP also encouraged people to stay current on common frauds to protect themselves and their money.
