Police Roadblocks, North Okanagan Drivers Urged to Stay Sober This Holiday Season as BC Highway Patrol Launches Safety Campaign
Vernon, BC, December 4, 2025 - Drivers in the North Okanagan are being reminded to plan safe rides this holiday season as the BC Highway Patrol kicks off its annual “Light Up the Province” enforcement campaign.

The one-night blitz on Saturday, December 6 marks the start of a month-long effort to reduce impaired driving across the province.
Hundreds of officers from the BC Highway Patrol, local RCMP, municipal police departments, and Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) will be patrolling highways and setting up checkpoints to catch impaired drivers.
New locations, brighter lights, and enhanced commercial vehicle checks are part of this year’s initiative.
“Police officers across the province, including here in the North Okanagan, will be working extra shifts this month to keep our roads safe,” said Superintendent Mike Coyle of BC Highway Patrol. “If you plan to drink, make sure you don’t drive.”
Roadblocks will be active throughout highways in the Okanagan, including routes frequently used by North Okanagan drivers.
