RCMP Dive Team Recover Pickup Truck and Driver From Okanagan Lake

Updated: Oct 23

A specialized RCMP dive team recovered Laticia Watson and the vehicle she was driving Tuesday.

Watson's Northbound vehicle left Westside Road and plunged down a steep bank into Okanagan Lake on June 9 2023 at approximately 9 pm.

The Kelowna RCMP and the Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) located the vehicle the following day.

Deep water made a recovery difficult.

The RCMP dive team was on the scene Monday to assess the situation. Today the team attached floatation airbags to the pickup truck to raise it off the bottom so it could be towed to a nearby dock equipped with a crane so as to lift the vehicle from the lake.

Sections of Westside Road can be unforgiving. Many parts of the winding two-lane road have no concrete barriers, sometimes there is nothing but crumbling asphalt between the road and a 40-meter drop down a rock face to Okanagan Lake.

A GoFundMe has been started to help Laticia Watson's family.
