July 4 2026 - Drivers passing through Sicamous this summer are seeing a dramatically transformed R.W. Bruhn Bridge, with substantial advancement on the long-awaited replacement project since ExNews.net last highlighted the project last May, Major Milestone Reached

In just two months, the steel girder skeleton that marked a major milestone in early May is now largely covered with the concrete deck. The new four-lane structure, that will include space for a multi-use pedestrian and cycling path, is clearly taking shape across the Sicamous Narrows.

The size of the new crossing visibly dwarfs the old Bruhn Bridge.

The Ministry of Transportation and Transit says the project remains on schedule, with full completion targeted for late 2027.

Some unconfirmed reports have suggested the new bridge could see a possible partial opening this fall (one lane in each direction to start), but this has not been officially confirmed in recent provincial updates.

Looking ahead, closures of Highway 1 (Trans-Canada) are expected to stay minimal through the peak summer season. There are currently no scheduled daytime full closures at the bridge from June 18 through at least mid-September. However, travellers should always check DriveBC.ca for real-time updates, as the closure schedule can be unpredictable due to weather, construction needs, or other events.

In mid-June, a 100-tonne crane truck tipped over at the worksite on the west end of the bridge. The cause is still under investigation. There were no injuries reported, and officials confirmed there was no disruption to highway traffic or nearby infrastructure. No major work stoppage resulted from the incident.

The $260.5 million R.W. Bruhn Bridge and Approaches Project is part of the larger Highway 1 four-laning initiative along the Trans-Canada corridor between Kamloops and Alberta.

The R.W. Bruhn project includes also include widening approximately 1.9 km of highway, and upgrading intersections.
