May 2 2026 - New images show significant progress on the long-awaited R.W. Bruhn Bridge replacement project, with large sections of steel girders now firmly in place across the Sicamous Narrows.
The images show the growing skeleton of the new four-lane bridge, complete with a red crane towering over the site and construction activity along the Trans-Canada Highway corridor.
The project, which began in fall 2024, is transforming the aging two-lane structure into a modern crossing that will improve safety and traffic flow for thousands of daily users.
The new bridge will feature four travel lanes and a dedicated multi-use path for pedestrians and cyclists.
Construction and Traffic Impacts
While the project is advancing on schedule for a late 2027 completion, drivers and boaters in the area should continue to plan for occasional disruptions.
Highway 1 experiences regular daytime closures (typically 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday to Saturday) to allow safe construction activities.
Boating traffic on the Sicamous Narrows may also experience intermittent delays from time to time when work safety requires it.
The project includes widening approximately 1.9 km of Highway 1 and upgrading nearby intersections.
Cost: Approximately $260.5 million
For current closure information check DriveBC.ca or the official project page at gov.bc.ca/bchwy1-bruhn.
