The Polson Park Motel is No More

In its heyday, the budget motel offered approximately 28–30 rooms, many with kitchenettes and air conditioning, a convenient stop for travelers near the park and hospital.

The motel’s role changed dramatically during the COVID-19 pandemic. Leased by BC Housing from April 2020, it provided temporary housing for vulnerable people. In 2022, the province purchased the property and converted it into permanent supportive housing operated by Turning Points Collaborative Society.

Now, the original building has been removed to make way for a new five-storey, 48-unit supportive housing complex. Each unit will include a private bathroom and kitchenette, with shared common areas, a central kitchen, and 24/7 on-site staff support for residents at risk of or experiencing homelessness.

The new building is scheduled to open in 2028.
