Updated October 3 2025 - Five years after Erin Chelsea Borgford’s body was found in a burned-out vehicle near Westside Road, her homicide remains unsolved.

On the morning of September 20, 2020, at about 5:00 a.m., emergency crews responded to a vehicle fire on Louis Estates Road. After firefighters extinguished the blaze, human remains were discovered inside a 2014 Nissan Rogue.
An autopsy later confirmed the victim as 27-year-old Erin Chelsea Borgford of Whitehorse, Yukon.
At the time, RCMP investigators said Erin was likely driving from the Lower Mainland back to
Whitehorse when her life was cut short in the North Okanagan.

Now, on the fifth anniversary of her death, the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP and the Southeast District Major Crime Unit have again appealed to the public.

“Our investigation is ongoing, and we are needing the public’s help to solve this homicide,” says Cpl. Brett Urano, BC RCMP spokesperson. “If anyone interacted with her in the days before her death or has any information about why she came to be in the North Okanagan area or who she may have met with, we are urging you to come and speak with our investigators.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Southeast District Major Crime Unit tip line at 1-877-987-8477.
