June 21 2026 - Vernon Fire Hall 1 has sent a Tender and manpower to help battle an out-of-control wildfire burning near Saw Creek. Vernon is one of several B.C. communities contributing resources as the fire threatens the Lytton area just days before the fifth anniversary of the devastating 2021 Lytton wildfire.

The human-caused Saw Creek wildfire (K70597) was discovered on June 19, 2026, in the Kamloops Fire Centre and has grown to 704 hectares. It remains out of control and has been designated a Wildfire of Note.
Evacuation orders for Saw Creek have been issued by the Lytton First Nation and the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD). Evacuation alerts are also in effect from the Lytton First Nation, Siska Indian Band, Skuppah Indian Band, TNRD, and the Village of Lytton.

Fire activity decreased overnight due to cooler temperatures and light winds, allowing crews and structure protection personnel to focus on defending structures.
As of June 21, an Incident Management Team is in place with 135 BC Wildfire Service personnel, nine helicopters, and 47 structure protection specialists assigned. The fire is burning at Rank 1–3.
Warmer temperatures (mid-20s to low 30s) and lower humidity are forecast, with crews working the north and south flanks to secure perimeters near communities.

The situation is evoking strong memories of the June 30, 2021, Lytton wildfire, which destroyed most of the village and claimed two lives.
Rebuilding efforts in the community have been slow.
No injuries or structure losses have been reported from the current fire.
