The Toyota Yaris left the southbound lanes of Highway 5 sometime between 11:50 a.m. and 12:20 p.m. on December 27, between the Sowaqua chain-up area and Othello Road.

Police say a white Toyota Yaris left the southbound lanes of Highway 5 and plunged down an embankment sometime between 11:50 a.m. and 12:20 p.m. on December 27, between the Sowaqua chain-up area and Othello Road.

The driver and sole occupant, a 21-year-old woman from Vancouver, was taken to hospital following the crash but died two days later from her injuries.

Despite the collision happening in broad daylight, investigators have not yet located any witnesses.

“This crash occurred in broad daylight, but police have not been able to locate a single witness so far,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol. “The driver was never able to tell police what happened. We need witnesses and video to make sure there’s no criminal cause.”

BC Highway Patrol is asking anyone who saw the white Toyota Yaris in the moments leading up to the crash, or who may have dash-camera footage from the area at that time, to contact BC Highway Patrol in Chilliwack at 604-702-4039, quoting file (1501) 2025-54575.
