Two people are dead following a snowmobile incident on Charlotte Lake, according to police.

February 24 2026 - RCMP said officers received a report on Feb. 20, 2026, that two snowmobilers had not been seen since Feb. 17.

While police were en route to the area, neighbours began searching and located the couple deceased beneath the ice.

Investigators believe the pair and their snowmobiles broke through the ice on Feb. 17. Due to the delay in reporting them missing, the surface of the lake had time to refreeze, concealing the break in the ice.

On Feb. 22, members of the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team, who have specialized ice-diving training, attended the scene and recovered both individuals.

Police have identified the deceased as a 65-year-old man and a 58-year-old woman from 100 Mile House. Criminality is not believed to be a factor in the deaths.

The BC Coroners Service has been notified and is continuing its investigation.

“Variable temperatures significantly increase the risks associated with any activity on frozen lakes or rivers, and we urge everyone to use extreme caution,” said Anahim Lake RCMP Detachment Commander Sgt. Scott Clay. “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased during this difficult time.”
