Construction to begin on 15th Street in Vernon, detours planned

March 15 2026 - Drivers in Vernon will soon see construction activity near Highway 6 and 15th Street as infrastructure upgrades get underway next week.

The work is being funded and carried out by the developer, Armstrong Land Corp., and is expected to continue through Aug. 31, weather permitting.

According to the City of Vernon, construction is scheduled to begin March 16 along 15th Street between Highway 6 and 15th Avenue.

The work will upgrade underground utilities needed for a new development planned at 1601 15th Street.

The project includes watermain, storm and sanitary service upgrades, installation of new traffic signals at the intersection of 15th Street and 14th Avenue, and construction of a multi-use path along 15th Street to support walking and cycling in the area.

During construction, northbound traffic on 15th Street between Highway 6 and 15th Avenue will be closed. Motorists heading north will be detoured via Highway 6 and Pottery Road to reach areas beyond the work zone. Southbound traffic on 15th Street will remain open between 15th Avenue and Highway 6, and emergency vehicles will continue to have access through the area.

The City says the work is being funded and carried out by the developer, Armstrong Land Corp., and is expected to continue through Aug. 31, weather permitting.
