Cougar Sighted in Vernon

Vernon, BC – November 26, 2025 A cougar has been spotted since November 24–25 in Vernon’s Beairsto Elementary area and near 39th Ave & 24th St.

Unconfirmed reports claim the animal may have killed a pet cat.

The sighting prompted a soft lockdown at Raising Stars preschool.

The BC Conservation Officer Service is actively monitoring and will intervene if public safety is threatened.

If encountered: stay calm, pick up kids, back away slowly, never run, appear large and loud, and fight back if attacked.
