November 14, 2025 - After six months of detours and delays, Coldstream’s Aberdeen Road sewer upgrade is finally moving into its last stage.
Fresh paving has now gone down on both Aberdeen Road and Selkirk Drive, a clear sign the long-running work is close to wrapping up for the season.
The project began in early June with single-lane alternating traffic on Selkirk Drive.
By late August, Aberdeen Road was fully closed 24/7 between Venables Drive and Selkirk Drive, a closure originally scheduled to end October 1.
Progress slowed when crews hit a large rock formation near the Aberdeen–Selkirk intersection, forcing extensive drilling and removal. A November 7 update from the District confirmed the closure remains in effect as work continues past the original target date.
“The District’s contractor, Chapman Industries, is monitoring the weather and coordinating with the paving contractor to complete paving as soon as possible so that Aberdeen Road may be reopened to thru traffic,” the release stated.
Through traffic continues to detour via Kalamalka Road, Sarsons Road, or Middleton Drive, with only local access permitted on the affected stretch.
As for what improvement foot traffic or cyclists can expect along Aberdeen, we will have to wait and see.
Crews on site have referred to the widened shoulders as “pathways,” but the District has not detailed the final layout. It won’t be clear exactly what Coldstream is getting until the project is finished and the final line-painting is complete.
For now, the rock is gone, it looks like the new sewer main is in place, and the fresh asphalt is down.
Aberdeen Road is nearly back.
