Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2025 - Travellers heading through the southern Interior and into the Rockies should be prepared for rapidly changing weather, reduced visibility, and varying traction as temperatures hover near freezing on several summits.
Below is a corridor-by-corridor look at the Okanagan Connector, the Coquihalla, and the Trans-Canada from Revelstoke to Golden and Field

Okanagan Connector – Merritt to Kelowna
Travellers heading over the Okanagan Connector (Hwy 97C) should be prepared for true winter-mix conditions today.
Environment Canada is calling for rain this morning transitioning to periods of snow near the Pennask Summit this afternoon, as the snow level drops toward 1600 metres.
Up to 5 cm of snow is possible at the summit through the day, with another 5 cm tonight as the snow level falls further to 1100 metres.
Road conditions (DriveBC): Between Junction Hwy 97 and Pennask Summit, conditions are compact snow, with slushy and slippery sections.
Temperatures at midday sit around 1°C at the summit and 1–2°C near Brenda Mine, with light precipitation and breezy conditions.
Drivers should expect changing traction as temperatures hover around freezing and may freeze again overnight.

Coquihalla Highway – Hope to Merritt / Merritt to Kamloops
A YELLOW Rainfall Warning is in effect for the Hope–Merritt section, where 20–30 mm of rain is expected today, followed by 15–25 mm tonight.
Near the summit, this may fall as wet snow, with up to 10 cm possible overnight as the freezing level drops toward 1200 metres.
At the Coquihalla Summit, rainfall since early morning has exceeded 20 mm, with road and air temperatures hovering at 1°C. Winds remain gusty.
Farther north, the Merritt–Kamloops stretch faces mainly cloudy skies, occasional showers, and lowering snow levels overnight. Winds increase this evening.
Expect variable visibility, pooling water at lower elevations, and possible slushy or icy patches near the summit as temperatures approach freezing.

Trans-Canada Highway – Revelstoke to Golden and Field
This corridor is currently shaping up to be the most challenging mountain pass for drivers at the time of writing.
With heavy snowfall, active incident management, and steep grades through Rogers Pass, drivers should be prepared for reduced speeds, variable traction, and potential travel disruptions from Revelstoke through to Golden and Field.
A YELLOW Snowfall Warning is active from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass, with 10–20 cm of snow today and another 10–20 cm tonight. Snow is expected to reach the valley bottom overnight as temperatures drop, accompanied by gusty winds.
Conditions east of Golden remain dynamic.
A major incident eastbound between Golden and the Yoho boundary has resulted in lane closures, though one eastbound lane is now open. Travellers should expect significant delays, congestion, and crews working roadside.
