Power out for more than 4,600 customers from Armstrong to Lake Country

March 8 2026 - A weather system moved through the North Okanagan Sunday morning bringing wind, rain and wet snow, knocking out power to more than 4,600 BC Hydro customers from Armstrong and Spallumcheen through Vernon and Coldstream to Lake Country.

According to BC Hydro’s outage map, the largest outage affected about 3,755 customers in the Armstrong, Coldstream, Spallumcheen and Vernon areas north of Highway 97 and west of Weins Way. Crews are on site and power is currently estimated to be restored by 12:30 p.m.

Another outage east of Lumby, Mabel Lake Road near Vernon has left 839 customers without electricity after a tree fell across power lines. BC Hydro crews are also on scene there, with restoration estimated by 3:30 p.m.

A smaller outage along Creighton Valley Road is affecting 37 customers, also due to a tree down across the wires.

Two additional outages reported in Lake Country, along McCarthy Road and Old Mission Road near Highway 97, are affecting fewer than five customers each due to a downed wire and a tree across power lines.

BC Hydro says the outages are under investigation, though many appear to be linked to trees brought down by strong winds as the weather system moved through the region early Sunday morning.
