Wind Downs Powerline, Closes Silver Star Road

July 16, 2025 10:30 PM: High winds forced the closure of Silver Star Road in both directions near Jackpine Road on Wednesday night after a tree brought down power lines. The lines are suspended several metres above the road, posing a hazard to motorists.
BX Swan Lake Fire Department closed the road shortly before 10 p.m. BC Hydro has not provided an estimated time of arrival for crews, citing a high volume of incidents across the region.
It’s been a busy evening for firefighters and hydro crews, with wind-blown trees taking down power lines in multiple areas including Armstrong, Vernon, and BX.
According to BC Hydro’s outage map, approximately 8,000 customers across the Okanagan and Kootenay regions lost power due to thunderstorms and strong winds. All available crews are working to restore power safely and efficiently, and additional teams are being brought in.
