Wildfire Shut Down of Highway 3 Near Manning Park Continues

The 900 hectare fire is still burning out of control.

July 22, 2026 - The closure of Highway 3 in both directions from Sunshine Valley to 8 km west of Manning Park Lodge due to active wildfire conditions continues.

The closure is driven by the Norwegian Creek wildfire (V10942), which has grown to 900 hectares and is burning Out of Control. The lightning-caused fire, first detected on July 17, is producing significant smoke in the Manning Park area, prompting the highway shutdown for public safety.

BC Wildfire Service maps show a cluster of fires in the same region, including several smaller blazes (some held, others with active perimeters) near Highway 3.

Ground crews are on scene assessing suppression options and developing contingency plans in difficult terrain. The fire is not currently threatening structures, and BC Parks has been notified.

There is no detour available. Motorists are advised to use Highway 5 (Coquihalla) as the alternate route.
