Out-of-control wildfire near Vernon grows to 100 hectares; evacuation alert expanded

August 1 2026 - A wildfire burning north of Westside Road near Vernon has grown overnight to about 100 hectares and remains out of control, the BC Wildfire Service reports.

The Bradley Creek wildfire (K41351) was discovered Friday evening, July 31, 2026, along the Bradley Creek Forest Service Road in the Kamloops Fire Centre.

At this time it is suspected to be human-caused.

As of the 6:21 a.m. PDT update on Saturday, August 1, the fire is classified as out of control, meaning it is spreading or expected to spread beyond its current perimeter.

On the recommendation of the BC Wildfire Service, the Okanagan Indian Band (OKIB) Emergency Operations Centre has issued and expanded an Evacuation Alert.

The alert covers properties east of Six Mile Road and north of Westside Road to Mary Emeralds Bay Road.

This includes areas along Bonneau Road, Pebble Park Lane, Louis Road, Royal Road, Marchand Road, Six Mile Road, and multiple addresses on Westside Road.

No evacuation order is currently in effect, but residents in the alert zone should be prepared to leave on short notice.

BC Wildfire crews are assessing homes in the area for structure protection.Local observers reported aerial activity over the fire site on Saturday morning, including what appeared to be a water-dropping aircraft, possibly a helicopter.
