June 19, 2025:
What's Happening
Work continues to progress on the Trans-Canada Highway west of Rogers Pass as crews push ahead with a major widening project near the Lanark and Jack MacDonald snowsheds.
Construction crews were seen busy on-site this week, with heavy machinery and traffic control in place as part of the ongoing effort to expand this stretch of Highway 1 to four lanes.
Why It Matters
The work is part of a $245 million infrastructure upgrade aimed at improving safety and traffic flow through the mountain corridor between Revelstoke and Golden. The project includes widening a 2.6-kilometre section between Jumping Creek and the Jack MacDonald snowshed, along with new centre medians and roadside barriers to reduce collision risk.
What’s Next
The goal is to complete construction by spring 2028, with funding from both the provincial and federal governments. This section is one of several highway segments being upgraded as part of BC’s broader Kamloops-to-Alberta four-laning initiative.
