VANCOUVER ISLAND – August 3, 2025: The Wesley Ridge wildfire (V71145), burning between Port Alberni and Nanaimo, continues to grow, prompting ongoing 24-hour firefighting operations.

The fire has expanded in recent days due to difficult terrain and heavy timber along Cameron Lake's south edge. Large-scale smoke continues as fuel burns on Wesley Ridge slopes.
The blaze is currently threatening areas near Little Qualicum River Village and the north side of Cameron Lake. Structure protection task forces, including multiple Vancouver Island fire departments, are in place.

As of this morning, 67 wildfire personnel, 7 helicopters, 7 pieces of heavy equipment, and air tankers are assigned. Crews are using direct attacks overnight and establishing control lines and large-scale water systems.
No structure losses have been reported. Evacuation alerts and orders remain in place for nearby communities, with regional coordination led by the Regional District of Nanaimo and local fire departments.
Cameron Lake is closed to recreational watercraft to allow air crews to operate safely. The use of drones near the fire is prohibited.
Highway 4 is open, but travelers should check DriveBC.ca for the latest conditions.
No equipment loss has been reported in today’s update.
