Updated: Oct 15

June 24, 2024: Approximately 4:20 p.m. on Monday, Vernon Fire Rescue Services (VFRS) responded to a fast-moving grass fire near Highway 6 and 27th Street.

The fire, which was spreading upslope towards a structure, was quickly contained by firefighters before reaching nearby bushes.

Traffic was diverted from 27th Street, causing significant delays. A third alarm was called, with additional support from the BC Wildfire Service, RCMP, and BC Ambulance. The cause of the fire is undetermined, and no injuries were reported. Crews will remain on scene for several hours to ensure the area is secure.

Despite recent rain, conditions in the North Okanagan remain very dry. Deputy Chief Alan Hofsink urged the public to remain cautious and vigilant.
