Who doesn't love a parade? Colourful event draws large crowds
VERNON February 8 2026 - Hundreds of spectators lined the streets of downtown Vernon on Saturday afternoon as the Vernon Winter Carnival Parade returned as one of the marquee events of the 66th annual Vernon Winter Carnival.
Dozens of floats, marching groups, community organizations, bands, animals , and themed entries filled the route, all inspired by this year’s carnival theme, “Team Carnival – Canada Goes for Gold.”
Many entries featured gold accents, costumes, and Olympic-style flair, reflecting the winter sports focus and the spirit of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina.
The parade took place on Saturday, February 7, running from noon until about 1:30 p.m., and followed a route south along Vernon's 27th Street from 45th Avenue to 32nd Avenue. The route matched last year’s layout, a straight southbound path introduced in 2025 for safety and logistical reasons as the city continues to grow.
A one-mile Fun Run kicked off activities along the parade route earlier in the day, helping set the tone ahead of the main event.
Despite cloudy skies, a temperature hovering around 7°C, and a few minutes of light rain, crowd enthusiasm remained high and turnout was strong throughout the route.
Road closures and parking restrictions were in place along 27th Street between 30th and 48th Avenues to accommodate the parade and staging areas.
The Vernon Winter Carnival runs from February 6 to 15, 2026. Festivities officially began the day before the parade, with the Balloon Glow at Village Green Shopping Centre helping launch this year’s celebrations.
