Vernon Winter Carnival Brings Family Fun Park and Fireworks to Kal Beach

The Vernon Winter Carnival’s popular Family Fun Park is set to return on Friday, February 14, with a new lakeside location at Kal Beach in Coldstream.

Running from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Valentine’s Day, the by-donation event will transform the sandy shoreline of Kalamalka Lake into a full day of winter-themed family fun, capped off by a fireworks display at 7 p.m.

Organizers confirmed the move to Kal Beach after the event was originally planned for Kidston Elementary School. The change was made for logistical reasons, with the open beach and nearby pier offering a unique setting for activities and fireworks. The location also carries historical significance, as the very first Vernon Winter Carnival in 1893 was held on the lake, then known as Long Lake.

Families can expect a wide range of activities, including human foosball, street hockey, broomball, and a Canadian Artists Dance Party. Local food trucks will be on site throughout the afternoon and evening.

Parking will be available in the main Kal Beach parking lot off Husband Road, and attendees are encouraged to dress warmly for lakeside winter conditions.

More details are expected closer to the event, but organizers say the Kal Beach setting promises a memorable, distinctly Okanagan twist on one of the carnival’s signature celebrations.
