Treehouse Encampment Being Removed in Vernon

October 23, 2025 – Crews began dismantling a homeless encampment this week at Vernon’s north end, near Highway 97 and 48th Avenue.

More than visible from the road

The site stood out due to its prominent feature: a treehouse, highly visible to drivers along both roads.

The treehouse and its accompanying camp sparked lively discussion online.

A September 12, 2025, post in the Vernon Rant and Rave (Uncensored) Facebook group drew mixed reactions, blending empathy, frustration, sarcasm, and neutrality. Most expressed discontent with government inaction, with some praising the unhoused for their resourcefulness and urging compassion, while others criticized the encampment as unsafe or unfair, often with sarcastic jabs at bureaucracy.

A few noted jurisdictional complexities or downplayed the issue.

Contractors, presumably hired by the B.C. Ministry of Transportation, the property’s overseer, were seen wearing PPE and hauling debris to waiting garbage bins as the site was cleared.
