Update: The City of Vernon BC has put out a release regarding todays Alliance Church fire.
In the release they say Vernon Fire Rescue Services will remain on scene overnight.
The official number of crews fighting the blaze, approximately 35 firefighters from Vernon Fire Rescue, Coldstream Fire Rescue, Armstrong-Spallumcheen Fire Rescue, and BX/Swan Lake Fire Rescue.
As of 9 PM Monday evening crews continued to attack the fire and to bring it under control.
Once again the public was asked to stay out of the area so firefighters can operate safely.
43rd Avenue between 27th and 25th Streets remain closed.
Fortunately no injuries have been reported. The cause is under investigation.
The fire was first reported just after 5 p.m. Monday when 911 received multiple calls about thick black smoke and flames from the roof of Vernon Alliance Church.
RCMP, BC Ambulance, BC Hydro, and Fortis also attended. Crews will stay on scene overnight.
Update: Vernon Alliance Church says everyone is safe after a fire at its building on 43rd Avenue.
In an emergency Facebook post, the church said: everyone is out safe, the building is closed until further notice, and people should stay away because emergency crews are still actively fighting the fire.
The fire was first reported just after 5:00 p.m. Monday. No cause has been released.
Before the fire was reported, the church calendar listed its regular Monday outreach, Common Threads, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Common Threads is Vernon Alliance Church’s main drop-in program for people who need food and clothing. That program was scheduled to end about an hour before the first reports of the fire.
The church has not said how many people were inside at the moment the fire was first reported. It has said everyone is out and safe.

August 31 2026 - Vernon Fire Rescue is busy this hour battling a blaze in the 2600 block of 43rd Avenue.
Just after 5 PM 911 operators started receiving multiple reports of thick black smoke and fire coming from the roof of the Alliance Church.
Vernon Halls 701 and 702 responded. Coldstream Fire and Armstrong Fire RCMP BC Ambulance BC Hydro and Fortis also were on scene.
43rd Avenue was blocked off between 27th and 25th Streets.
No word if everyone was accounted for /at this time.
