Multiple crashes reported on Highway 97 south of Birnie Road in Vernon
VERNON, B.C. March 9, 2026Â - Multiple vehicles left the roadway along Highway 97 south of Birnie Road early Monday morning, creating a series of crash scenes within roughly a one-kilometre stretch of highway.
Shortly after 7 a.m., reports began coming in that several vehicles had gone into the ditch in the southbound lanes.
At one location, four vehicles were involved along with a trailer and a snowmobile that had apparently become dislodged and ended up along the roadside.
A short distance farther south, two more vehicles were off the highway in the ditch. One of those appeared to be from a previous incident and was marked with yellow tape, while the other appeared to be a more recent crash.
In total, five fresh crashes were observed within the one-kilometre section of highway, along with the trailer and snowmobile. The previously attended vehicle was not included in that total.
Southbound traffic on Highway 97 was halted for a short time while emergency crews responded, but later reopened to single-lane traffic.
Vernon Fire Rescue and the Vernon North Okanagan RCMPÂ attended the incidents. No injuries had been reported.
