Friday November 29, 2024: An accident has blocked Highway 97A near Swansea on Mara Lake, according to unconfirmed reports.
This section serves as the detour route for Trans-Canada Highway travelers avoiding the Bruhn Bridge construction west of Sicamous.
Multiple ambulances have been seen heading to the accident scene. None of the injuries are believed to be serious.
Eagle Valley Rescue is also on scene to assist with potential extractions. The RCMP is managing the situation.
The number of vehicles involved and patients is unknown at this time.
There is speculation that the Trans-Canada Highway, currently closed for construction, might reopen to single-lane alternating traffic earlier than planned to ease congestion caused by the Highway 97A closure, which has resulted in kilometers of backed-up traffic.
DriveBC is expected to release the next update at 3 p.m. Stay tuned for further details.
