Coldstream, BC December 12 2025 – A suspect was arrested Thursday afternoon following police activity in a Coldstream neighbourhood, though RCMP have not released details about what the reported suspicious activity involved.

Officers with the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP were first called shortly after midnight on December 11 to a report of suspicious activity outside a residence in the area of Tamarack Drive.

Police say the suspect fled before officers arrived, and initial attempts to locate him were unsuccessful. At the time, there was an unconfirmed report that the individual may have had access to a firearm.

Later that day, at approximately 12:30 p.m., police received a call from a member of the public reporting a suspicious person in the same area matching the suspect’s description. Multiple officers responded, established a containment area, and arrested the individual without incident.

RCMP say there was no immediate or direct risk to the public during the incident.

“We recognize that a larger police presence, particularly in a residential neighbourhood, can at times draw attention or concern from residents,” said Const. Chris Terleski, media relations officer for the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP. “At no point during the event was there believed to be any immediate or direct risk to the public.”

Police added that officers were in direct communication with nearby residents during the response and thanked them for their cooperation.

The individual was later released from custody pending further investigation.
