March 23 2026 - Residents of southern British Columbia’s interior should brace for gusty winds and wet conditions Tuesday as a vigorous low pressure system moves through the region. Southwesterly winds up to 80 km/h are expected to develop late Tuesday afternoon, peaking in the evening before easing near midnight. Drivers are advised to expect sudden changes in mountain weather and hazardous conditions on higher-elevation routes. Localized power outages are also possible.

Highways and Mountain Passes

  • Coquihalla Highway (Hope to Kamloops): Winds could push high-sided vehicles around, particularly between Hope and Merritt and again from Merritt to Kamloops. Sudden weather shifts may reduce visibility.

  • Okanagan Connector (Merritt to Kelowna): Southwest gusts up to 80 km/h, with rain and rising snow levels affecting Pennask Summit.

  • Hope–Princeton Corridor: Expect gusty southwesterlies with rain and intermittent snow at higher elevations. Drivers should remain alert for slippery sections and falling debris.
