March 22 2026 - It was a busy stretch for emergency responders across Vernon over the weekend of March 20, 2026, with multiple incidents keeping crews busy from Friday through Saturday.

Strong winds on Friday led to a surge in calls, as branches were blown onto power lines across the BX and Vernon area. Some incidents caused localized power outages, while others blocked roadways or sparked small fires. BC Hydro reportedly handled more than a dozen power-related calls in the region.

Later that afternoon, a serious crash involving a motorcycle and a car in the 2500 block of 35th Avenue drew a large emergency response. Vernon Fire Rescue Services, BC Ambulance Service, and Royal Canadian Mounted Police all attended the scene. The motorcycle rider was taken to hospital with unknown injuries.

The evening brought further activity, as the RCMP’s Emergency Response Team converged on a home in the 3900 block of 31st Street around 8 p.m.

The heavy police presence drew attention from passersby as officers surrounded the residence. After about an hour, an unknown number of occupants surrendered peacefully. Police maintained a presence at the location for much of the weekend, though details about what prompted the operation have not been released.

Emergency crews remained busy into Saturday.

Vernon Fire Rescue first responded to a slash pile fire that had spread into nearby grass. Shortly after, crews were called to Vernon Regional Airport, where they stood by as a small twin-engine Piper aircraft made an emergency landing.

The pilot was not injured, but the plane appeared to sustain damage after sliding a short distance along the runway on its front undercarriage.

Just a few of the incidents attended by first responders in the Vernon area.
