March 23 2026 - New details have emerged following a crash in Vernon that initially sent a motorcyclist to hospital on Friday afternoon.

RCMP say Vernon motorcycle crash was hit-and-run, rider seriously injured

According to a media release issued Monday by the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, the March 20 collision at the intersection of 25th Street and 35th Avenue is now being investigated as a hit-and-run.

Police say the crash occurred around 4:40 p.m. when a motorcycle travelling along 35th Avenue was struck by a blue SUV crossing 25th Street. The rider was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Investigators say the suspect vehicle, described as a blue Kia Rio SUV, fled the scene but was located a short distance away, unoccupied. One person was detained and later released as the investigation continues.

At the time of the incident, debris including what appeared to be a vehicle bumper could be seen at the crash site next to the damaged motorcycle.

Residents in the area told ExNews.net the impact appeared severe, with the rider thrown into the air and into a nearby fence. They also pointed to what they described as a trail of fluid leading away from the scene, suggesting the direction the vehicle may have travelled.

These details have not been confirmed by police.

This update follows the ExNews.net’ initial report on the crash, which can be read here: https://www.exnews.net/vernon-news/car-vs-motorcycle-crash-sends-one-to-hospital
