February 26 2026 - A yellow snowfall warning remains in effect for the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt on Thursday, February 26, 2026, as a frontal system brings periods of snow, local blowing snow, and strong winds to the high-elevation route.

Environment Canada forecasts 10 cm of snow today along the Hope to Merritt section, with an additional 5 to 10 cm tonight and another 5 to 10 cm on Friday. Snow levels are expected around 700 metres rising to 1,000 metres this morning, then lowering again overnight.

Southwest winds will gust up to 70 km/h today, contributing to reduced visibility from blowing snow.

At the Coquihalla Summit (elevation 1,230 m), temperatures hover near 0°C during the day, dropping to -3°C overnight, with recent snowfall of about 1 cm in the last hour and road surfaces forecast to stay around freezing or slightly above through the afternoon before cooling.

A special weather statement highlights challenging driving conditions due to strong gusty southwesterly winds, peaking later this morning with gusts up to 80 km/h, particularly on the Coquihalla Highway from Merritt to Kamloops and the Okanagan Connector (Merritt to Kelowna).

High-profile vehicles face the greatest risk, and local blowing snow is possible. Winds are expected to ease this evening.Travellers should prepare for hazardous conditions, as mountain weather can change rapidly.
