Smoke Coming From Tiki Village Vernon

February 15 2026 - Smoke was reported at the Tiki Village Motor Inn in Vernon Sunday morning.

Just after 8 a.m. on Feb. 15, Vernon Fire Rescue Services, along with RCMP and BC Emergency Health Services, responded to reports of smoke coming from the long-troubled motel property.

Light-coloured smoke could be seen rising from the rear of the structure. No visible flames could be seen from the street.

Firefighters were heard using chainsaws, appearing to cut into part of the building, possibly to access the source of the smoke.

Crews remained on scene for better part of the morning. RCMP officers were observed walking the perimeter of the building, which remains surrounded by steel wire fencing.

It is unclear whether the building if the Tiki Village was fully vacant at the time. In recent months, residents had been told to leave amid safety concerns, with warnings that power to the property could be shut off.

The site was secured behind a steel fence.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the smoke has not yet been released.

The Tiki Village Motor Inn has been a fixture in Vernon for decades.

Once a budget roadside motel serving travellers to the Okanagan, the property has faced significant challenges in recent months, including safety issues and the displacement of tenants.
