Semi Truck Crashes Into Parked Pickup and Camper Near Malakwa

MALAKWA, September 2, 2026: A semi-truck crashed into a parked pickup truck and fifth-wheel trailer on Highway 1 near Malakwa Tuesday afternoon, marking the second serious crash in the area that day.

Sicamous RCMP responded to the collision shortly after 4:00 p.m. September 1 at the west end of the Malakwa four-lane section of Highway 1.

Police say the pickup and fifth-wheel had been parked on the highway shoulder because of a mechanical failure when the westbound semi veered off the highway and struck both vehicles at highway speed.

The fifth-wheel trailer was heavily damaged, while the pickup also sustained extensive damage.

Two people in the pickup were uninjured. A person inside the RV trailer suffered injuries believed to be non-serious.

The semi driver was also not seriously injured.

RCMP confirmed alcohol was not a factor, while inattentive driving by the semi driver is suspected.

Highway traffic was temporarily closed while paramedics, including a BC EHS Air Ambulance unit, attended the scene.

RCMP and BC Commercial Vehicle Safety & Enforcement continue to investigate.

Police said it was fortunate that the collision resulted in no fatalities or serious injuries.

The second crash occurred several hours after a separate fatal collision east of Sicamous, where a westbound SUV crossed the centre line and collided with an eastbound sedan shortly after 6:00 a.m.
