April 28 2026 - If you insist on driving impaired, speeding aggressively, texting behind the wheel, or skipping your seatbelt, the RCMP and BC Highway Patrol might be waiting for you.
May is High-Risk Driving and Motorcycle Awareness Month across British Columbia.
With warmer weather bringing more motorcycles, RVs, and heavy traffic on routes like Highway 97, officers are out in full force with increased patrols.

“High-risk driving is anything that can kill you on the roads,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin of the BC Highway Patrol. “In collisions, speed kills.”
The campaign is targeting impaired driving, aggressive and excessive speeding, distracted driving, seatbelt violations, and motorcycle safety.
Last year (2025), the month-long effort resulted in over 9,600 speeding tickets province-wide, including more than 2,200 in the Central/Okanagan region alone, with 94 vehicles impounded for excessive speeding.
Enforcement is active right now and will intensify over the Victoria Day long weekend.
Penalties are steep: fines up to $483 and higher, 30-day vehicle impoundments, towing costs, and significant insurance rate increases.
