Avalanche Canada has just released a new app to help backcountry users plan safer trips, and they’re asking the public to help shape it.
April 12 2026 - Avalanche Canada says the new mobile app is still in beta, with a full version expected in fall 2026. In the meantime, users are encouraged to try it out and provide feedback as part of the development process.

The app introduces a new place-based search feature, allowing users to look up specific locations and quickly see relevant avalanche conditions, rather than navigating a map.
It also includes mobile-friendly avalanche forecasts, simplified photo-first MIN trip reports, and a streamlined way to find key information for a planned outing. A traditional map view is still available for those who prefer it.
Developers say the goal is to build the app alongside users, using feedback gathered this spring to refine features and improve usability.
Among the key questions they’re asking: whether the search function works as expected, how easy it is to find trip-planning information, and what users find confusing or frustrating.

The beta version is available now on Android through the Google Play Store.
For iPhone users, the app is not yet in the App Store, but can be accessed using Apple’s TestFlight platform, with step-by-step instructions available on the Avalanche Canada website here - https://avalanche.ca/news
