Vernon, B.C. – May 7, 2025
A man is in custody after a dramatic standoff ended in a creek near Westside Road, just outside Vernon.
On Tuesday morning, an officer with the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP’s Indigenous
Policing Service was investigating a report of a suspicious person when they discovered a temporary camp near Bonneau Road.

Two firearms were found in plain view at the site.
Moments later, a man returned to the camp and fled upon seeing the officer.
The suspect led police on a short foot chase before jumping into a fast-moving creek and climbing onto a log in an apparent attempt to evade capture.
Specialized RCMP units, including the Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Services, and a crisis negotiator, were called in. After several hours, the man was safely taken into custody.
The 35-year-old remains in custody pending further proceedings.
