UPDATED with corrected opening date.
Last April, LifeLabs announced its plans to open its first Patient Service Centre (PSC) in the summer of 2023.
There is a great need for such a lab in the region. In October 2021, British Columbia's Interior Health outpatient lab in the Sterling Centre professional building on 25th Avenue at Highway 6, Vernon, BC, was closed.
That closure significantly increased the patient load on the remaining three labs in Vernon.
Patients in need of blood work sometimes had to endure long wait times, lining up for hours, while others chose to visit labs in other cities.
The new LifeLabs facility will be located inside the Polson Place Mall on Hwy 6 and Kalamalka Road in Vernon, BC.
Workers have been diligently preparing an existing suite within the mall for months.
The lab's unofficial opening date is Tuesday, July 4, 2023, after the Canada Day long weekend.
Hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
The centre will provide access to various services including blood collection, Holter monitoring (a continuous heart monitoring test), and electrocardiography services. These services will be available both on a walk-in basis and by appointment.
