KSAR Assists RCMP Recover Crash Victim

Kamloops Search and Rescue assisted RCMP at a fatal vehicle incident west of Cache Creek on Sunday, Feb. 1.

Emergency crews were called shortly before 10:30 a.m. after a vehicle went over an embankment and into icy water in Hat Creek. The incident occured on Highway 99 about 10 KM west of the Highway 97 Junction.

Steep terrain marks the crash location

Eleven search and rescue members responded, including specialized rope and ice rescue personnel.

Once Kamloops Search and Rescue crews reached the vehicle, the occupant was located and confirmed deceased.

Crews later secured the vehicle and winched it out of the creek and back onto the highway.

The scene was turned over to the BC Coroners Service.
